Staying Fresh

Coming from a theatre background, I learned a lot about a variety of artistic endeavors. Theatre people have to be a "jack-of-all-trades". Prop making, costume design and construction, set design and construction, makeup design and application are just a few of the artistic challenges that give theatre professionals a rounded, all inclusive training bananza. This has been fundamental in my post retirement career. I bounce around enjoying all kinds of art from jewelry making (my first love) to mixed media, flower arranging and about anything you can imagine. Somehow I always come back to jewelry and mixed media. Between focusing on these two genres here are just a few pictures of what I do to clean my artistic palette.

Christmas Decor for the Museum

My advice is step out of your comfort zone! Play with others by taking classes or just try something new and different. The growth that you will achieve will inspire fresh new ideas that you will apply to your first and forever art genre. Come on and make the leap! I dare you!

Floral Designs for Events at the McFaddin-Ward House Museum

They let me play with flowers!

One of the perks of being a volunteer at the house museum in my town, the Mcfadden-Ward House Museum, is the enjoyment of creating flower arrangements for our events. Lectures, banquets, Christmas decor they let me go wild! This is one of my favorite things about volunteering. I love giving tours as well!

Jewelry Christmas Tree

In the last few months I have been going to a lot of estate sales. Last week I picked up some grab bags of old jewelry. What a bargain!  I couldn't wait to get home to inspect the loot. I took inventory and I loved what was in the bags. So much glitter and odd pieces that had to be used for a special project. For many years I had been admiring Christmas Trees that were collaged with old jewelry. I was sure that I had enough to create the tree I have wanted for such a long time.

I made Sandra Evertson's Relics and Artifacts line of products from Prima the focal for my tree. The cameos were spaced with care to give them focus.
I'm over the moon with excitement to make my new tree the theme for this year's Christmas decor.
I hope you will be inspired!

Inspiration Board Created to Liven Up my Studio

This is what I did with a collection of trinkets that are waiting to be the focal of a wonderful piece of art, jewelry or mixed media masterpiece. Rather than hoarding them away in a box or drawer I captured them on this framed tag board. As I gather more pieces I will layer them on thick and enjoy watching how my board will change and evolve. Beautiful, inspiring, and a show stopper! I hope you will be inspired to display your collections in a artful manner.

Mammie McFaddin Ward 119th Birthday Party Family Tree

One of my favorite pass times is volunteering at a house museum in my home town, the Mcfaddin Ward House Museum, Beaumont, TX.  Over the years I have been called upon to create decor for parties and special events. The staff knows who to call when they need something unique and special. I used my latest obsession with brown tags to make this family tree. Decorating each tag with a picture and stamping them up was just a blast.

Sneak Peek of My Latest Project an Art Journal

This is a my first attempt at an Art Journal. I used a cereal box which I covered in old hankies and a small embroidery sampler. A prayer card stitched to the cover went so well with the colors of the sampler. My pages are made from brown craft paper and more hankies. I took my time since I was challenging myself but I must say it is just lovely.

Feeling Lucky?

Gift Tag Exploration

"What to do? What to do?" I found myself with an abundance of leftover treasures which were too precious to store away in the bottom of a drawer. A cosmic stumble and I catch my big toe in a new form of assemblage. Obsessed is not a strong enough expression for how I have fallen in love with tags! iceresin.com
